Budding South Australian space entrepreneurs can now apply for scholarships of up to $20,000 to help launch their careers in the burgeoning space sector.  

The South Australian Space Industry Centre is providing $100,000 worth of scholarships through the second round of the Space Scholarship Program.  

The four-year scholarship program is part of the $4 million Space Innovation Fund and aims to support the development of space entrepreneurship in South Australia. 

SASIC Chief Executive Richard Price said the scholarship program helps potential founders of South Australian based space businesses acquire new knowledge and skills.

“Establishing the headquarters of the Australian Space Agency in South Australia at Lot Fourteen is set create unprecedented opportunities for our young people in the space industry,” he said.   

“South Australia is the nation’s space industry capital and we are excited about the possibilities a dedicated space agency will offer aspiring space entrepreneurs, engineers and scientists in this industry of the future.

“Growing the future space workforce and cultivating the next generation of leaders to ensure the continued success of South Australia’s space industry is a key priority.

“The Space Scholarship Program will equip our brightest minds the skills, knowledge and passion to forge meaningful careers in space and carry on our ambitions for South Australia to be a leader in space.”  

Successful applicants will use the funding to develop their leadership skills, experience and knowledge in the space sector through education, and/or training at space-related organisations.   

Students eligible to apply must be:

  • a South Australian resident;
  • a postgraduate with qualifications in science, technology, engineering, law, medicine, IT, economics business.
